Villanova Increases Accountability and Steps Up Fundraising Efforts

The Advancement Performance solution is making data more reliable and reports more accessible to advancement staff at Villanova University, enabling them to operate more independently and effectively, and helping management better measure and predict outcomes.

Prior to implementing the solution, the Advancement office was using various standalone data systems to collect and report on data: Microsoft Access, Oracle Discover and Banner Advancement. The disparate systems made it difficult for staff to access the information and reports they needed to be effective in their fundraising.

“We had reports out there, but our end users couldn’t access them,” said Mike Zellman, director of Advancement Services. “Producing reports is a lot easier now. Financial reporting is one of our great successes of using the solution. Our users do all of their financial reporting out of the fundraising module now.”

Today, fundraisers can access, measure, and segment their prospect pool of 14,000 or analyze proposal pipelines for various projects and campaigns, and manage overall prospect engagement.  The University is looking forward to taking advantage of additional features in Advancement Performance including additional constituent and prospect attributes such as region, a Cognos-embedded data dictionary and additional measures to evaluate prospect engagement.

“All these tools help us use more of our human resources for fundraising,” said Zellman. “The solution gets our staff to the donor faster ….The also solution helps us align donors with projects, and tie University goals to the funds that are coming in within the next few years.”
