The American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) has launched its Red Balloon Project.This initiative challenges those of us in American higher education to "Re-Imagine Undergraduate Education." Institutions that were designed in a different era are not capable of producing the number and quality of college graduates needed for the global economy of the 21st century and the sustainable communities where we want to live and work. Our institutions, first designed in the 11th century and operating on the agrarian calendar of the 19th century, have to prepare students for life and work in the 21st century. We need transformational changes to build 21st century institutions.
