The CSI Board of Directors oversees the business and affairs of CSI in accordance with the bylaws and consistent with the mission, acts as the arbitrator of final appeal for issues that cannot be resolved, establishes and maintains the process of coordination and appoints committee members to standing and ad hoc committees.

The Board is the highest governing authority of the Community Source Initiative and represents all Ellucian products.  A goal of the board is diversity of product representation and therefore clients representing the Advance, Banner, Colleague and PowerCampus solutions are encouraged to submit an application.  Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their application as soon as possible.

Call for Nominations-Community Source Initiative Board of Directorshttp://www.edu1world.org/Commons/680822013-04-04T15:08:25ZJamie Battin - EllucianThe Community Source Initiative is seeking applications from individuals who wish to join the Board of Directors.

The Community Source Initiative is user group dedicated to the enhancement of Ellucian software products by the contribution of customer-written software for incorporation into baseline. Equally it is dedicated to improving the variety and availability of customer-written software freely shared among the customer community.

The mission of the Community Source Initiative is to:

  • Solicit software contributions from the community of customers that would be eligible for becoming part of baseline or new Ellucian software products.
  • Establish functional and technical review committees to evaluate the applicability of contributions for inclusion in Ellucian baseline products and to provide guidance to the contributing schools for improving the applicability and acceptability of the contributions.
  • Work with Ellucian to create functional and technical guidelines and standards for contributed software.
  • Create a library or clearing house of contributed software that was not accepted for inclusion in baseline but which the customer community could use on an "as is" basis.
  • Work with other open source initiatives such as Apereo and Kuali to develop, adopt and propagate open standards for IT, data and information in education and research settings to increase the interoperability of academic and administrative software for higher education.
  • Serve as an effective voice for open and community source software for academic and administrative systems efforts in education.
  • Provide guidance in promoting and growing the community during times of major technology changes and upgrades. This will include the creation of guidelines and policies to help direct committees and other participants during these periods of change to keep the community active and relevant.

  • Enhancing the reputation of the organization, while promoting positive working relationships and communications with individual and institutional members;
  • Establishing the basic policies of the Community Source Initiative and maintaining and reviewing any proposed changes;
  • Shaping and clarifying the mission and vision of the organization;
  • Shaping, approving and monitoring the strategy and planning of the organization;
  • Reviewing and approving the organization’s objectives, plans and actions;
  • Providing oversight of disclosure and transparency, risk assessment, internal controls and processes designed to promote the organization’s activities;
  • Assessing and improving the Board’s own effectiveness;
  • Active participation in Board of Directors meetings and committees.

CSI Board of Directors Elects New Officers; Adds New Memberhttp://www.edu1world.org/Commons/667562013-02-26T16:24:02ZJamie Battin - EllucianThe Community Source Initiative (CSI) recently elected new leadership to guide the open forum where Ellucian customers share ideas for enhancing solutions and launching new functionality. The CSI Board of Directors is responsible for the strategic vision of CSI, maintains its technical and functional committee staffing and management, and serves as a voice for open and community source software for academic and administrative systems in higher education.

Dick Harris was elected CSI board chair. He is the assistant vice president, administrative IT services at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana and has been a member of the CSI Board of Directors since 2009.

Kay Rhodes was elected vice-chair. She is the associate vice chancellor and system CIO at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX.  She has been a member of the CSI Board of Directors since 2011.

Rory O’Neill was elected secretary. He is the executive director, application services at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks, AK.  He has been a member of the board since 2011.

The new board expressed its thanks to outgoing board chair, Bill Thirsk, vice president of technology at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY.  Thirsk was instrumental in forming the initial board and worked to ensure that bylaws were created. He also expanded the size of the board to foster diversity of client and product representation. In other board news, Nate Tucker, director IT systems at Lee University in Cleveland, OH was approved to join the board.
